Look what came in the mail for me yesterday.
Last year while in NZ, we meet some new family members to Rick's family. We got talking and they said they were going to carve one for me. Maori's don't do carving just for anyone, as it is very meaningful to them. Not only was it carved especially for me but it was also blessed. I am feeling very special at the moment. As I am not even a Kiwi, and to have one made just for me by a Maori.
The fishhook is one of the most common symbols of the Maori people. This design represents strength and prosperity. It is also a good omen for anyone with an affinity with water and the ocean. This carving is traditionally given as a mark of friendship and respect. The fishhook is often incorporated within other shapes, adding the element of strength and prosperity.
The Fish Hook was placed into this hand woven bag for a safe travel.
Thank you so much Martha and David, I will cherish it always.
